As promised from the IMAX teaser Friday night, there was more to come on Saturday, with 20th Century Fox and director Ridley Scott released the second trailer for his upcoming film, Prometheus. The trailer is the first official full trailer for the film, coming in at a decadent 2 minutes and 32 seconds. Check out the video below, and hit the jump to read on about my opinions of the new trailer.
“A king has his reign, and then he dies. It’s inevitable.”
The trailer is simply astounding, and anyone who doubted or was skeptical that Ridley Scott could create a captivating follow up (or lead up?) to 1979’s Alien has been officially proven wrong with the release of this trailer.
“I think they want us to come and find them.”
The effects are fantastic, which could make it hard to believe, for some, that it takes place before Alien, but you couldn’t have expected Scott to leave the effects work in the past. It’s been over 30 years; times have changed. Scott has produced some masterful camera work, and, from the look of it, even better story telling.
The plot is this (via IMDb): A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
“There won’t be a home to go back to.”
From the trailer, we get a feel for the world that the film takes place in, and a sense of the story and just what this battle entails. The tagline for the film, “The search for our beginning could lead to our end,” tells us all we need to know. We are going to see an all out alien-human war, something that could lead to the end of mankind as we know it.
Prometheus marks Ridley Scott’s return to the sci-fi genre, a “welcome home” for one of the genre’s masters. He exited after 1982’s Blade Runner, long considered to be one of the the masterpieces of 20th-century cinema. Scott’s new film, a quasi-prequel to 1979’s Alien, is one of my most anticipated films of the year. It hits theaters June 8.
